Filming has got underway on Hercules as Dwayne Johnson takes on the title role in the film.

The movie will see Johnson team up with director Brett Ratner for the first time and is based on the graphic novel 'Hercules: The Thracian Wars'. John Hurt, Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes and Peter Mullan are all also on board.

The first synopsis for the film has finally been revealed:

But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Herculesí help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail... he must again become the hero he once was... he must embrace his own myth... he must be Hercules.

It has already been a busy year for Johnson with the release of 'Fast & Furious 6' and 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' - 'Pain & Gain' is also set for release later this summer. He is set to return to the role of Luke Hobbs in 'Fast & Furious 7' and he has been linked to 'Arabian Nights'.
